‘ Opera Girl ‘ is a new downtempo tune from British producer Benji Vaughan, who has been making waves in the electronic music world since the Dawn of the 20th century.
It’s a dark, cinematic electronica with nostalgic pianos that sound like they are coming from a garishly haunted house and bewitching siren-like whispers, which somehow resonates with current zeitgeist, spirit of uncertain 2022.
Benji began his musical journey creating psychedelic dance floor masterpieces as a solo Prometheus, then nailed his stance with 4 progtronic epic albums as Younger Brother, A unit with Simon Posford between 2003-2014. Then right after his solo classic ‘ Even Tundra ‘ in 2014 with more introspective piece of personal electronica direction, Benji suddenly went silence without any release or tour for 7 years.

He began his musical journey creating psychedelic masterpieces for the dance floor through his Prometheus moniker and he’s has never stopped evolving-firstly through his progtronic epics written with Simon Posford in the band Younger Brother and then his solo classic ‘Even Tundra’ from 2014. オペラ・ガールは、９０年代末よりヤンガーブラザー、プロメテウス名義でエレクトロニック・ミュージック界に波紋を広げてきた英国人プロデューサー、ベンジー・ヴォーンによるダウンテンポ・エレクトロニカの新曲だ。ガランとした幽霊屋敷から聞こえてくるようなノスタルジックなピアノ、彼独特の異世界的サウンドスケープ、妖艶なセイレーンのような囁き、、このダークでシネマティックな音世界は、先行き不透明な２０２２年という時代のツアイトガイスト、時代精神を体現していると言っても過言ではないだろう。
内省的なエレクトロニカの傑作とも言われたアルバム「イーブン・ツンドラ」から７年ぶりのリリースとなる本作には、豪州人著名プロデューサーのガス・ティルによる躍動感と煌びやかさに溢れたベルリン・ニューディスコ調の4/4リミックスが収録され、 異なるアプローチで陰陽コントラストを絶妙に強調したシングルとなっている。
ベンジー・ヴォーン ミニバイオ
ベンジー・ヴォーンは、20世紀初頭からエレクトロニック・ミュージック界に何かと波紋を広げてきたイギリス人アーティスト／プロデューサーだ。
まず手はじめにプロメテウス名義でダンスフロア向けのサイケデリックな傑作を作り始めた彼は、その進化を止めることがなかった。英国サイトランス界の生きる伝説となってしまったプロデューサー、サイモン・ポスフォード（シュポングル）とYounger Brotherというバンドを結成し、２００３年から２０１４にかけてプログレッシブなエレクトロニック叙事詩とも言える４枚のアルバムを発表。心に刺さるメロディーとサイケデリックな世界観が融合した音世界は「エレクトロニック音楽界のピンクフロイド」とも形容され世界中にコアなファンを獲得。そして2014年にはソロの傑作「Even Tundra」でより内省的なパーソナル・エレクトロニカという、ヴォーンが向かう新たな方向性を示唆。しかしリリース直後ベンジーは突如沈黙し、 7年間もの長きに渡ってツアーも音楽リリースもなくファンは何が起こったのかわからないままニュースを待っていた。
そんなベンジーが、オーストラリア人プロデューサー、ガス・ティルのリミックスをお供にダウンテンポのニューシングル「Opera Girl」で２０２２年４月２7日に復活する。5月２5日にリリースされるコンピレーション「Chillpresso 3」からの第一弾先行シングルとなるこの記念的なリリースをハイポエスプレッソ・レコードのクルーはとても誇りに思っている。
